Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Training

Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training is a training strategy involving the use of cuffs placed around a limb during exercise, to maintain arterial inflow to the muscle while preventing venous return.

What does this mean?

Utilising the BFR cuffs enables you to complete exercise at lower loads while maintaining similar benefits to high-intensity training. This Includes muscle hypertrophy (muscle size), muscle endurance, and positive cardiovascular benefits.

What are the benefits?

Some of the benefits of Blood Flow Restriction training include:

  • increased strength,

  • decreased joint and tissue load,

  • increased muscle size, and

  • increased aerobic conditioning.

So, who is Blood Flow Restriction training good for?

BFR is great for everyone! It is especially good for those who may not be able to lift heavy weights, but want the benefits of doing so. This training technique is becoming very popular with elite athletes and sporting associations to speed up recovery and increase strength in target muscles.

Plus, you will really feel the burn - and when done under the supervision of our exercise physiologist, you know you’ll be training smarter and safer.
